About

The Corn Mill Theatre is delighted to launch our Writing For The Theatre Workshop series with award-winning Playwright Deirdre Kinahan. Over three days we will explore the elements of being a playwright and provide opportunities for new and emerging playwrights to develop their own stories.
We have two events over three days, open to anyone in the amateur drama space.

Becoming A Playwright

Becoming A Playwright on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th January 2022, 10am-4pm | Booking: €50 | By application
This is an immersive workshop for those wishing to begin or improve their scriptwriting skills. Day one will be a deep dive into elements of scriptwriting and will analyse several plays to illustrate variations in themes, structure, tone, and other aspects.
As ‘homework’ each participant will be asked to write a short piece before class the next day.
In day two participants will present a section of their script. Deidre, with input from the group, will discuss the piece and provide feedback and suggestions on how the script could be developed.
We only have spaces for ten people this weekend, due to the focused nature of the work. The weekend is open to anyone serious about developing works for theatre. It is not essential to have written a play but participants will need to demonstrate some experience in the world of theatre and be serious about developing their writing skill.
Potential participants are asked to email Taragh Donohoe, Secretary of The Corn Mill Theatre, at taragh.donohoe@gmail.com for further information and application details.
The Corn Mill Theatre would like to thank Leitrim Arts Office for their support of the workshop series, through Culture Night funding 2021.
